Local news that tells you what changes

Amelia Undertow follows decisions that affect people in Fernandina Beach and Nassau County: public budgets, housing, roads, major police activity, growth, surveillance and services. We aim to publish twice a week when the records support a useful story.

How we work

We start with original public records and direct sources. We link the documents behind material claims, date the record and say whether an action is proposed, adopted or in effect. We identify gaps rather than fill them with guesses. When we analyze a set of records, we label the inference. Opinion is labeled as opinion.

We do not use a stock photograph to imply that it depicts a local event. Images appear only when their rights and context can be verified. The story visuals are editorial illustrations. They do not depict actual local events, buildings, records or the county permit system.
